Trend discovery process

- Now its 16th year, this report is the most comprehensive study of logo design trends in our industry. Annually, using the exceptional resources of logolounge.com we access more than quarter of a million logos uploaded by thousands of prominent designers in more than 100 countries around the globe. Because this resource is so vastly searchable, it provides us the ability to audit the enormous volume of logos crafted and submitted each year. As ever, this trend report identifies clusters of emerging design traits created over the last 12 months. Logos of the most recognized brands internationally to the smallest boutique ventures are evaluated. After reducing this collection to 1,000 or so contenders exhibiting new characteristics, we play a mammoth version of match game, pairing up the kindred logos may give us close to 100 initial groupings for consideration that are then whittled down to 30. After input and consultation, those finalists are shared with a respected group of identity designers that reduce the field to the 15 trends we present here. All of the past reports are available of free on logolounge.com or you can also join the site to use the complete resource to share and discover trends and influencers in real time as you design. It's important to note that these are not the only trends or directions happening at this point. We may well have reported on other trends of don't in past years or they may be prevalent enough not to be considered a trend. Let it also be noted that we're just reporting what we observe which is why we call this a report. It's your own best judgment, imagination and skill that take these nuggets of insight and press them forward to their next evolution. Being aware of what's shaping our field will dramatically improve your ability to discuss your reasoning with clients and peers. Let what we discuss here serve as a base camp to launch your next creative climb. Plant a new flag and maybe we'll see your work leading our next report.
