- It's hard to tell what a crowd looks like when you're standing in it. It's only with a bit of distance that we truly gain perspective and clarity. For just that reason, we're going to take a look at logo design from the '60s through the '80s and we're not doing this to reminisce, but because it's a great way to see the evolution of trends from 20,000 feet. I've assembled a timeline here that starts simply enough with Paul Rand's IBM logo, implemented in '67. Stripes, lots of stripes, 13 to be exact, and that ultimately gets knocked down to eight, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Now, there are many other striped logos before, during, and after this timeline, but I've tried to keep our focus on key identities that had a more broad influence. '71, and here comes Adidas, and by '72, IBM simplifies with eight stripes and Harris Bank and others start working stripes into their motif.
