- [Instructor] Welcome to Type Tips. I'm Nigel French. In this episode, I'd like to tell you about a very small but important feature in Adobe InDesign that will really improve the appearance of your type, especially if you are working with justified type. And that feature is Optical Margin Alignment. In the example on the left, Optical Margin Alignment is not applied. And where the text is hyphenated, those hyphens create something of an optical hole. And the justification doesn't look as sharp on the right-hand edge as perhaps it could. So coming now to the exact same piece of text on the right-hand side, I'm going to turn on Optical Margin Alignment. And this is incredibly easy. All you do is come to the Type menu, to the Story panel, and check the box. Now, there is one setting that you can change, and that is the size. Theoretically, this size should correspond to the size of type that you're working with. And I'm working with 12-point type. So I'm going to leave that at 12…
