- I always hate to start with an apology, but in the English language, there really aren't many optional synonyms for the word transparent. But there are more than enough, iterations of its application. So to establish a baseline for transparency and logo design, maybe we should start by mutually agreeing on what the term really means. And what kind of illusion we're creating. In 2003, we struggled mightily to roundup a small handful of any kind of transparent marks. And you can see by these three that the term could reference anything then, from the overlay effect of fusion media to the amorphous clear pools of light in FasionBite to Altria's stain glass effect of the grid representing layered product. Designers were testing the water, but with any trend the logos of the earlier adopters were being scrutinized and vetted by the industry to see if they'd stick.
