Leveraging NURBS: Sampling

Leveraging NURBS: Sampling

- [Instructor] I have my exercise file open already. At the core of Grasshopper is Rhino and at the core of Rhino is NURBS or Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines. NURBS is the math, the functionality that enables us to do complex geometric operations accurately with curvy surfaces. A great way to understand NURBS, is to interrogate the process of sampling. This is really how NURBS works. We give inputs control points and the NURBS math returns the locations in space along a complex surface. So in Grasshopper, I have a 2D slider set up, which enables me to move a point and that point is from zero zero to one one in the Cartesian system. Then I have a surface here, so I'm going to bake the surface into Rhino then I'm going to select the surface and re-import it back into Grasshopper. This enables me to make changes in model that I'll see within Grasshopper. So let's do some sampling. I'm going to go to surface, evaluate surface. I'll plug in my surface and plug in my point. I see a plane…
