Leveraging NURBS: What is BREP?

Leveraging NURBS: What is BREP?

- [Instructor] I have my exercise file open already. In this video I want to talk about BREPs. In Rhino we're used to talking about surfaces and polysurfaces. This object, for example, is composed of three surfaces joined together at their edges to form a polysurface. Grasshopper introduces new vocabulary. This object in Grasshopper is called a BREP, or boundary representation object. The term comes from solid modeling where surfaces are joined at their edges to describe the outside boundary of a solid object, delineating what's inside the object and what's outside the object. In Rhino it's fine to talk about surfaces and polysurfaces. The geometry is what we interact with, but in Grasshopper it's more important that you understand the relationships between the geometric elements so that you can interrogate the object and extract geometries as needed. So let's look at how this works within Grasshopper and how we can access the elements that compose the BREP. If I go to surface and go…
