- [Instructor] Let's get started in Grasshopper by answering question one, which panels are appropriate for which function? Because we're working backwards from outputs, we need to set up some dummy data to make it think things are working as we start to set up our outputs. We know that Grasshopper typically uses mesh geometries for sun and shadow calculations so it's safe to assume we'll be working with meshes. I'm going to grab a generic mesh sphere to use as dummy data. I know I want to be operating on individual mesh phases rather than in a complete mesh so I'm going to get the phase boundary component from the mesh tab to get individual phases as poly lines. I also know that I'm going to be visualizing these mesh phases as three-dimensional objects so I'm going to grab the phase normal component from the mesh tab so that I can extrude these mesh boundaries into three-dimensional objects.
