Shooting photos with a wide dynamic range
- A new option inside a photo mode is the ability to shoot with wide dynamic range. Now you might have heard of HDR photography or High Dynamic Range and this is typically an image that contains 32 bits of information which is a lot more than the typical 8 bit file. This is information about color and exposure and it shows a much wider dynamic range from the darkish shadows to the brightest highlights. Well the Go Pro has the ability to do something quite similar with wide dynamic range or WDR. Turning this on will attempt to optimize the contrast right in the camera in the jpeg file. Now wide dynamic range and RAW are not compatible with each other. So you're going to need to choose one over the other. In order to access wide dynamic range make sure you go back to standard photo mode. This isn't available for burst or time lapse or night time mode.
