- As we continue our study of complex topics, I'd like to explore the 2nd of the UDL Principles which is "Engagement". Engagement is all about keeping students involved in their learning. And increasing their motivation to learn. Have you ever sat down in a meeting, or staff development presentation, only to find that you or some of your colleagues were grading homework, texting, having conversations? Or, in other words, not really paying attention? Or not engaged in the meeting? Now imagine that you went to that same meeting and the presenter said, "Throughout this meeting, "you will work on two projects of your choice. "And at the conclusion, "if your project meets or exceeds our criteria, "then you will receive a $100 bonus in your paycheck". Would you be more motivated to pay attention and complete the assignments? Yes. I hope so. But why? There's an incentive at the ends. That's the bonus.
