- [Voiceover] In this video, I'll talk a little bit about number lines. So number lines are probably somewhat familiar to you from maybe even as far back in Elementary school. It's a way to represent numbers and their distance from each other. So in this problem, I've got three points above and they're equally spaced. All I have to do is find the value of x. Okay, so nothing too special about this problem A lot of times there are sort of unknowns in terms of the distances between things. So in this case, just have to do a little bit of thinking. If the distance is equal between each points, between these first two points, the distance is 1/4, right? Because 1/4 plus 1/4 is a half. So the distance between these two points must also be 1/4. So 1/2 plus 1/4 is 3/4. Great, so that means that root x equals 3/4. But, what's the value of x? Good question. We have to go a little further here. So we have to simplify this and say, "Well, how would we solve for x in this case?" Well, root x is…
