Overview of function questions

- [Voiceover] Certain GRE verbal questions will be testing your ability to determine how parts of a passage contribute to the whole or how passages are organized. So I call these kind of questions, Function questions and in this video I'll talk about how they work. So some of the common Function question types are classifying highlighted portions of a passage, selecting a sentence in a passage that plays a certain role, identifying the function of a certain part of a passage, or maybe identifying the overall organization of a passage. So the good news is that all of these questions are testing the same basic skill which is understanding what part of a passage does in addition to what it says. So in the Reading Critically video I talked about the different components of a passage, things like background information, opinions and evidence, and these are really helpful to practice in identifying since you can often use these terms to classify parts of the passage.
