Probability word problem example
- [Voiceover] I want to show you a word problem with probability, 'cause there's kind of a weird situation that I think needs explanation, and generally math books don't do a great job of explaning this particular scenario. Let's say I've already gone to the store and I have a carton of eggs, so I'm gonna draw a typical carton of 12 eggs, and let's just say that two of these eggs are hard boiled, and somebody presents me with this carton of eggs and says, hey, what if I were to ask you to pick one egg out, put it on the table, and then pick another egg out, put it on the table, and they ask me, what is the probability that I can pick both hard boiled eggs, assuming that the hard boiled eggs look, feel, smell, exactly like the other eggs? Well, good question. So here's how we have to do it, and a lot of times this will also be phrased by, let's say the person picks two eggs at the same time. What are the chances that they're both hard boiled? So we actually want to think of this one…
