Quartiles and percentiles

- [Voiceover] So quartiles and percentiles are ways to think about portions of a data set. So let's say I have a data set, one, three, three, six, then eight, eight, eight, eight, eight, eight, 10, 10 and then 13, 13, 13 and 13, ok. So generally, when we're talking about quartiles and percentiles, we're listing our data from least to greatest. And if you think about the word, quartile, it kind of makes sense that it's talking about quarters. So the first way we usually start with is to say what is Quartile two? So I'm going to call this Q2 for Quartile two and that is the same thing as our median, so that's the middle number. So it's the average of eight and eight, which, of course, is eight. And that's where we hit the 50th percent of our data. So if we would talk about Q1, well, that's kind of designates the first quarter. So Q1 and that's our 25th percentile and then Q3 over here is our 75th. So notice now we have one, two, three, four quarters. So those are our quartiles. So…
