- [Voiceover] Hi, I'm William Lidwell and this is Universal Principles of Design in this movie Red Effects: The Color of Blood and Fire. There is this great story about Bill Shankly, the legendary manager of the Liverpool Football Club, and for Americans, when I say football here, I'm talking about soccer. In the second round of the European cup of 1964, right before their match with a formidable Belgian team by the name of Anderlecht, Shankly handed out all red uniforms to the players. Ian St. John, a player for the team recounts the moment in his autobiography. He writes "Shankly thought the color scheme would "carry psychological impact-- red for danger, red for power. "He came into the dressing room one day "and threw a pair of red shorts to Ronnie Yeats. 'Get into those shorts and let's see how you look,' he said. 'Christ. Ronnie, you look awesome, terrifying. 'You look seven feet tall.' 'Why not go the whole hog, boss?' I suggested. 'Why not wear red socks? Let's go out all in…
