Scholarly vs. popular publications

- During the previous chapters about different types of resources, we talked about many kinds of periodical publications. One way to evaluate these publications is to determine whether it is scholarly or what we can refer to as popular. According to the Association of Research Libraries, scholarly communication refers to the systems by which the results of scholarship are created, registered, evaluated, disseminated, preserved, and reshaped into new scholarship. Basically we like to think of scholarship as a conversation. Ideas and theories change over time because of scholarly communication through journals. So, for example, what is the difference between the content of these two publications? Let's talk about some of the obvious visible differences here. The differences between them might reflect the audience they are trying to attract. If you chose an article from each publication, you'd find there are many more differences as well.
