What you should know

- [Voiceover] This course is designed to be used actively as opposed to passively. My hope is that you will become more and more self-sufficient as you progress through it, since on test day, it'll just be you and the GRE. In this video, I'll cover a few things you can do before you start the course, so you can get the most out of it. First, spend some time reading through the GRE's official website, which is at ets.org/GRE. Don't worry about learning everything at once, but begin the process of getting familiar with the test, how it operates, and what material will be on it. In later videos, I'll cover the most important things to know about the test and how it works. Second, please do all the problems in the exercise files. Thinking through problems on your own without help and persevering when you get stuck will build your GRE skill. On that note, please invest in the ETS books, The Official Guide to the Revised GRE and both the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning practice question books. These books are invaluable since they contain authentic GRE questions. Questions which are more complex and realistic than any other company's. Finally, please be prepared to adjust. Certain people will need more or less time to master certain concepts. So, don't be afraid as you go, to reevaluate your goals and your timeline. On a related note, please keep an open mind about your ability to do well. Overconfidence or under confidence can really hurt your preparation. Work on the tests consistently, check your progress every so often, and you'll improve to the best of your abilities.
