- Throughout this course we have introduced you to information contained in databases. There are thousands of databases. Some free, and some extremely expensive. Let's look at some examples that might be useful specifically to art and design majors. In addition to periodical and image databases that we have mentioned earlier, there are databases that contain e-books, ebrary is an example of that. There are also statistic databases and other databases related to market research. If you become a business owner or a designer you may have need of this type of database to do research about trends. If you work for a non-profit organization here are databases that contain information about foundations and grants. These are good for artists seeking funding. And there are databases that contain information about the newest, most advanced materials, excellent for product designers.
