That is, under what circumstances the technique is applicable in general, and specifically, within problem management activities. We'll finish by covering how to do it, the actual steps. So, lets' get started. The best way to prevent problems in the first place, is to understand what could fail, or go wrong, and then work to minimize or eliminate the possibility. Component failure impact analysis is a technique for mapping components of the service, and identifying which are single points of failure, and which have failover capabilities, and to what degree.
