- [Instructor] When you first connect a Windows 10 computer to a network, wired or wireless, you're prompted to set the overall network security. The two choices are public and private. A public network is set in an unfamiliar location, such as a cafe, library, hotel, airport, and so on. When this setting is chosen, security is high and privacy is protected. Other computers on the network cannot access your computer, and your computer cannot access those computers and network devices, including a network printer. The private network option is ideal for secure locations. It offers less security but also access to more network resources. Choose this option for a trusted network, like your home or office. Under this setting, network resources, such as printers and shared drives, can be accessed, and other devices on the network can see your computer present and access resources if allowed.
