Finding the PC's IP address

- [Instructor] As part of the networking ritual or often in response to tech support, you may be called upon to report the computer's IP address. IP stands for Internet Protocol. This number is a sequence of four values separated by periods and each value is in the range of zero through 255. The number identifies your computer's network connection. The computer system may support multiple IPs, one for each networking adapter. A wired NIC has an IP, a wireless NIC has an IP. So a PC with both wired and wireless networking adapters has two IP addresses at minimum. The IP address can be assigned by the computer's networking router or gateway. This dynamic address is created via the DHCP which stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. The IP address can also be set specifically which is done via the computer's operating system. This static address must be coordinated with the router or gateway to ensure network access. No two devices on a network can have the same IP address. To…
