21st Century Cures Act

- [Instructor] The 21st Century Cures Act, passed in 2016, is a federal law that is designed to improve the speed of innovation in health research. It also includes some privacy related provisions that are of interest on the CIPP exam. The act prohibited the practice of information blocking, where organizations engage in activities that interfere with, or prevent access to electronic health information. Organizations engaging in information blocking may be fined up to $1 million per violation. The 21st Century Cures Act also introduces provisions that allow the compassionate sharing of mental health information and substance abuse treatment information with family members and caregivers.
