Activating File History

- [Instructor] Backing up your files is so important it serves two purposes. As a safety copy of your data should hardware disaster befall the storage system, and as security against a ransomware attack or a virus. Windows takes backup a step further by implementing it as the File History feature. Not only is a safety copy of your files kept, but you can browse older editions of a file and restore them if necessary. The key is to activate File History. It's not on by default. And to make it work, the computer needs access to external storage, such as an external hard drive or SSD, a network drive, and so on. To configure File History or check on its current status, open the Settings app, press the Windows and I keyboard shortcut. Choose Update and Security, Backup. If File History is configured, as it is on this computer, you see the master control, which is set in the On position. Everything is ready to go.
