Adding and modifying datasets
- Here on the pool screen I can see that now I have a pool and FreeNAS has created a dataset for me on that pool. Within this dataset we can create other datasets, subsets of the data available on the dataset. (mouse clicking) I'll create a dataset called storage, because I intend it to be used to store files that don't belong to any particular user, I click save. (mouse clicking) And at the same level, I'll create another dataset called homes for home directories. (mouse clicking) (mouse clicking) Because these datasets are both subsets of the primary one they take up space in the same pool. As the root user, we can go look at this top level dataset and see subsets and all their contents, but if we share the storage or the home's datasets on the network as we'll do later on, users wouldn't be able to navigate from their home folder into the storage dataset, they might have permission to access both but they'll…
