Adding storage
- [Instructor] Once we have a FreeNAS server up and running, we can still add more storage to the system. We can do this in three ways. First, we can add disks to the system and use them to create another pool with new data sets. Or, we can take those new disks and add them to an existing pool, creating a new vdev and extending the pool onto it. And, finally, we can replace all of the disks in the vdev with larger disks, one at a time, eventually expanding the pool or making the pool larger. Which approach you take should be informed by how your data is used and organized. Something to consider here is whether a particular data set needs more space or whether you need more space for a new data set. If one data set needs more space, You're likely to want to either extend a pool or expand a pool. And, if you're tight on space and need to add a new data set to a crowded pool, setting up a new pool is likely a good idea.…
