- [Instructor] Many of the popular data sources that are currently being used to report on COVID-19 focus primarily on the number of cases reported, number of hospitalizations, number of deaths, and number of recovered. These data sets are useful for looking at the population as a whole and the rate of infection. However, these data sets are not ideal choices for many researchers who need the data at a patient level, as well as those researchers who want to use this information and compare against other countries. While it is possible to use this information to compare against other countries, because these data sets primarily focus on the United States and our local counties and states, this will present a challenge to be both normalized and standardized.
