- [Narrator] Organizations use risk analysis to evaluate potential threats, such as a cyber attack, along with system weaknesses, such as a missing password, to proactively implement ways to manage risk. Managing risk is an ongoing process. We need to continuously monitor and manage risk so we can reduce the potential for harm. Remember the formula for evaluating risk. Risk equals threat times vulnerabilities. Therefore, in order to understand the risk to assets, we need to identify the possible threats and vulnerabilities. So that we can see how all three work together, let's use a case study on three computers. The first computer is an older computer with no protection. Perhaps someone was given an older system such as Windows XP. The second computer has a free version of anti-malware protection with no automatic updates.
