- [Instructor] Computer hardware is prone to failures and accidents can happen at any point. To assume otherwise is setting yourself up for a disaster. Anyone that has administrative responsibility over their organizations valuable data needs to have a backup strategy, a documented plan for when the unthinkable eventually happens. On the surface, the idea of a backup is pretty simple. It's just a redundant copy of your database that you can keep in a secure location. Should something go wrong with your primary database, you can recover your system using the backup copy. Now, while the idea of a backup of a database is straightforward, actually implementing a backup strategy involves making a number of decisions based on how you use the database and weighing some costs against potential benefits.
