Backups and replication
- [Instructor] Chances are, the data on your FreeNAS is important. Otherwise, you likely wouldn't be using redundant storage and accepting the costs that come along with that. Remember though, redundancy is not a backup. A backup is a copy of your data stored on a different device, ideally in a different location that you can reliably restore from in case the primary copy is damaged. Because your data is important, it's critical to make sure that it's backed up somewhere in case something terrible happens to your data or your hardware. Using FreeNAS, there are a few ways we can accomplish this. We can routinely copy data to another system using options like rsync, CloudSync, and cron jobs. We can use replication to copy snapshots to another system, or use plugins like Bacula to configure backups independently of FreeNAS itself.
