- [Narrator] IP structure is another key area of network troubleshooting. First, we need to determine if you're using IPv4 or IPv6 addressing schemes. By default you'll use both even if you didn't set it up that way. And that's because Microsoft and other operating systems create a v4 and a v6 address by default. Most organizations use v4 on the inside. Although many use v6 on the outside due to the lack of v4 addresses. For now we only care about the inside and I'll assume you're using v4. Without getting into too much of a tutorial on IP addressing, I'll just mention that the most common IP issues are due to incorrect sub-netting. Here's an IP address that is common in many homes and businesses. It's an internal addressing scheme because you won't find it on the internet as it is a private subnet that is non-routable outside of a LAN.
