- [Instructor] What about the case where your system needs to send data to every node on the network? We call this a broadcast. Thinking of almost everything, the engineers of IP ensured that an address was reserved for the broadcast of traffic to all nodes. If we set all bits to one in the IP address, we have 255.255.255.255. Of course, what if we want to send a broadcast to a specific network? Well, sure enough all we need to do is set all the host bits to one in the IP address in this case. So for example, using a sub-network from the previous lesson, we would use the IP address 10.192.255.255. In fact, remember the minus two in the formula for the number of available host addresses in a network? Well, that minus two accounts for the broadcast address where all host bits are set to one, and it also accounts for all zeros in those hosts bits.
