- [Instructor] Unsolicited advertisements often land in our email inboxes. We're bombarded by messages, on a daily basis, attempting to sell us products and services. The CAN-SPAM Act seeks to regulate commercial email to protect consumer privacy. As with most of the privacy laws we discussed, CAN-SPAM is an acronym, and this one is a mouthful. The full name of the act is The Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003. Before we get into the specifics of CAN-SPAM's requirements, let's talk about three different categories of email messages. The first category is commercial content.
