- Hi, my name is Lacey Westphal. I have a PhD in molecular biology, but I am no longer in science. I now work for the largest charter network in Los Angeles, Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, where I've been the manager of academic data analysis for the last three years. In my current role, I work with student assessment data to help the home office or district level executive teams make strategic decisions about where we should focus our efforts for student learning and targeting students for specific supports, or instructional techniques that might be beneficial to them. The way I got into data science was through a roundabout way. I started a PhD program at USC and about three years into it realized I didn't want to continue in the academic space, and realized that the thing that I loved the most about what I was currently working on there was the data analysis piece.
