Challenges of working in non-profit
- Some of the challenges of my job are based in the fact that I work for a nonprofit. And it's a nonprofit that is centered around students. And so the resources put towards data and more of the backend kind of data engineering problems are pretty limited. And that results in having a lot of systems that don't talk to each other in terms of data. So there's a lot of disparate sources of data that have to be combined together to create something of value to a teacher or a student, or a school leader or the executive team. And that can often be painful to do, depending on where the data's coming from, because you have to make sure that you're matching student information from different systems and that can look different. You're working in multiple systems. It's hard to create a protocol that multiple people across teams can use to kind of replicate your method of doing things. And so you have to spend a lot of time thinking about how to make that process the most efficient as possible, knowing that it's already an inefficient process to begin with.
