- [Instructor] We talked about what the CCPA is and who it covers, but what happens if companies don't follow the law? There are several penalties for companies, and damages available to consumers in the event an organization doesn't comply with CCPA. Under most circumstances, consumers cannot sue businesses for violations. Only the attorney general can file an action against an organization in non-compliance. Using consumer complaints and other sources of information, the Office of the Attorney General can investigate businesses for the collective interest of the people. The attorney general will not represent individual consumers. Fines for violations of the regulation include $2,500 U.S. dollars for violations that are considered unintentional, and $7,500 U.S. dollars for violations considered intentional.
