From the course: Building, Maintaining, and Distributing RPM Packages
Conclusion
- We've seen how to compose and build packages of various types and what options are available for getting software into the hands of our users. It can take quite a bit of work to assemble a large project into a package, especially if it's a source package with complex build instructions. But, from a systems administration perspective it's helpful to understand how packages work and how to build and distribute them if we need to. I encourage you to spend some time practicing with these tools and to think about what parts of your workflow could be made easier by packaging and with different distribution methodologies. And if you'd like more information about building packages take a look at the packager documentation at RPM.org/documentation.html. Remember to build and keep your source packages so you can go back and modify packages when you need to. See you next time.
