Configuring virtual devices
- [Instructor] To start building up to storage that we can use, we need to design a Vdev or virtual device. This could be just on one disk or it could span more than one, either as a mirror of two disks, or a as a RAIDZ array, with data spread across more than one disk in a redundant and protected way. In the setup interface, we've already provided information about a pool, so now we need to configure the Vdevs that it'll use. The ZFS let's us add Vdevs to a pool, to increase the space available, and we can move pools between Vdevs as well, to micro it to new storage if needed. Here in my system, I have four disks of identical size, and using ZFS, I have a few different options to setup my storage. Once we set the configuration of the pool, further down the screen here, I see the disks on my system that aren't assigned to a Vdev.
