Connecting to a projector

- [Instructor] You have two ways to connect your laptop to a projector. Hardware and software. Specifically in this case, wired or wirelessly. The wired connection involves finding some sort of cable that matches the video output jack on your laptop with the video input jack on the projector. Your best hope is for an HDMI output and input, meaning you need only an HDMI cable. Odds are good however, that you'll need some type of cable adaptor, say matching your mini DV output on the laptop, with an HDMI input on the projector. If you make a lot of presentations, your laptop bag is doubtless full of cables and adapters, tools of the trade. Otherwise you must rely upon whomever owns the projector to provide the cable, or you rush to the office supply store to obtain the proper cable and adapter. As a tip, getting an HDMI adapter for your laptop and an HDMI cable is probably the best choice. Convert the video output port on your laptop to HDMI and display port is also a viable alternative. For a wireless connection, the choices are Bluetooth and WiFi. The Bluetooth connection is made like it is for any Bluetooth peripheral. WiFi projectors may require a specific app to make the connection. Otherwise the connection can be made in Windows. In Windows, press the Windows P keyboard shortcut where P stands for project. Choose connect to a wireless display. Choose the PC that's being shared to project to. Now I'm not going to follow through here because making the projection does mess up this computer display and interferes with the recording. Otherwise, this screen would be projected to the other computer and you would click the disconnect button here when you're done. We're going to cancel. To configure a Windows 10 computer to work as a projector on that computer, press the Windows P shortcut, choose connect to a wireless display and projecting to this PC. And ensure that this top item is active. Choose available everywhere on secure networks. Once configured an incoming request to this computer appears as a notification which you can approve or deny, providing this item here is chosen every time a connection is requested. As with connecting to any projector, the big hurdle is making the connection. Wired or wireless, once you accomplish this feat, the show can go on.
