Create a ZFS pool
- [Narrator] One of the core features of FreeNAS is that it provides storage for network clients. On a centralized storage host, it's important for data to be stored safely and to help guarantee the safety and reliability of data FreeNAS uses ZFS. ZFS offers any useful features, like automatically checking the integrity of data and the ability to take frequent snapshots of the storage for easy back-up and recovery. When storing and providing data on an ZFS volume, we'll work with datasets which act as the file system, or zvols, which acts as block storage devices. Datasets and zvols are kept in pools, which are stored on vdevs, which in turn are made up of disks. If you're used to working with other volume managers, you'll create different levels of storage independently. Like volume groups, volumes and file systems. Using ZSF on FreeNAS, we kind of do all of these steps at once. Vdevs don't exist on their own.…
