- [Instructor] For our demonstrations of dimensionality reduction I'm going to be using a dataset that is handwritten digits is a very well known data dataset within the machine learning world. And it describes images like this where people have written by hand a number and we're trying to get the computer to figure out what that number is. Now, let's zoom in on it a little bit. And let me show you how the dataset works. It's super imposes this number on a grid of pixels. And what I have here is a 16 by 16 pixel. The dataset actually uses 32 by 32 but this will give the idea. It goes through this grid on four pixels, by four pixels 16 pixels at a time. And it simply indicates how many of those pixels are activated. How many of them are not just pure white. This one has one, so this first variable that represents this 16 pixel grid would get a value of one. This has nine pixels turned on, so it would get nine.…
