- [Speaker] If your organization used personally identifiable information as part of your business processes for many years, it's very likely that electronic records aren't the only place where you've stored this sensitive information. You may also have paper records that contain the PII belonging to customers, employees, contractors and other associates. As you work through your organization's business processes, you should also identify any paper records that you might have that contain PII. These might be part of a current business process, or they might be retained records from past business practices. No matter the source, it's important to secure these records. PII that you collected 20 years ago can still be sensitive information today and may remain so until the owner eventually passes away.
