- [Narrator] You've now gathered all of the information that you need to begin taking action to protect personally identifiable information. You've identified business processes that use PII and you've interviewed key employees in both functional departments and information technology about those processes. You've also completed an evaluation about which uses of PII constitute legitimate business needs and which are likely unnecessary. Now comes the hard part. You need to work through those business processes that you identified as unnecessary and systematically eliminate them. You've already determined that they aren't necessary to meet your business needs, and the existence of these processes puts the security of your organization and the privacy of your employees and customers at risk.
