- [Instructor] Movies. Funny movies. Movie audiences love comedies. They love going to the theater, and the best comedies, people will watch them over and over. But not all comedies are the same. There are animated comedies, action comedies, comedies with supernatural elements, family comedies, and there are raunchy comedies not intended for kids. Let's take a look at the top comedies by decades since 1970. We'll look at the US box office for each movie and we'll divide them up by their rating. Here are the top movies by rating in the 1970s The Sting, a movie about con artists, was the top comedy of the 70s, and it had a PG rating. Animal House, the R-rated college classic, was a close second. Overall, the top 10 1970s comedies included one G-rated movie six PG-rated movies, and three R-rated comedies.
