How attackers drain your battery

- [Instructor] The last major resource subject to denial of server attacks is battery. For laptops or phones, depleting the battery usually isn't a big deal. You plug it in again. But for devices that may not be close to power, like security cameras, battery life can be a very big deal. Things that drain it are meaningful attacks. It used to be that batteries not included was on the side of every toy you got on your birthday. Batteries were something we inserted. Now, for size reasons, batteries are often gel packs that are tightly integrated and can't be replaced at all. Rechargeable batteries degrade with charge cycles, and so, attacks have a minor permanent effect. Lithium ion batteries also display memory affects if they're charged too often, and so, attackers might try to invoke those side effects. It's all rather draining.
