Identifying odd computer noises

- [Instructor] Computers make noise, typically, beeps and bells, and other sounds designed to alert or delight you. Other noises aren't so friendly, but still informative regarding potential problems. Don't avoid dealing with a new or unusual noise by thinking it may go away. Odd computer noises have a hardware source. The two culprits are items that spin inside the case, fans and the hard drive. Solid-state drives don't spin and they don't make noise. If your computer has an SSD, the noise culprit is a fan. A desktop computer has several fans, one for the power supply, another for the processor, and perhaps more for the display adaptor. A laptop may have a cooling fan, one that can get quite noisy as the laptop heats. The basic drone generated by these fans is normal, especially when the ambient room temperature is high or the computer is performing complex calculations or displaying fancy animations.
