- [Instructor] Because of the connectivity of our world, the infrastructure has expanded. With this expansion comes a greater need to protect the data. Let's take a look at some of the drivers for encryption. I'm at this website Bloor and here you can see they have a discussion on encryption. Now, what we'll take a look at is the drivers for encryption. One of the top reasons listed is to protect information against specific identified threats, followed by to protect intellectual property and customer personal information. Now, there are other reasons why we use encryption but we know that encryption is important. Well, as we discuss cryptography, you're going to hear many terms, such as symmetric, cipher mode, asymmetric and hashing. We'll go into detail on these as the course progresses.
