- [Instructor] While I bet you feel very comfortable and right at home with these IP addresses at this point, there is something that we cannot deny. It would be a nightmare to try and memorize even a handful of these addresses for key services we need to access. I'm sure you agree with me that it's easier to go to our web browser and go to the address bar and type LinkedIn than it is to know to type 13.107.42.14. Of course it is DNS that makes this name resolution and that's how we refer to it possible. This stands for the domain name service or domain naming system depending on who you talk to and DNS has that very specific job. When it is presented with one of these friendly names like LinkedIn, it serves up a response with the IP address of the device we need to contact. As you might guess this is a really big job.
