Introducing Transport Layer Security

- [Instructor] Transport Layer Security is a common way to secure data transactions on the internet. We'll see the various components that help ensure data confidentiality and integrity. We can apply encryption protocols in several places to ensure the security of data. At the Application layer, the Network layer and the Transport layer. Transport Layer Security is also called Secure Socket Layer or SSL. SSL is the original protocol. We use Transport Layer Security today, as it is an improved protocol. The term secure socket comes from the fact that a socket is an IP address and a port address. And it's created at the transport layer of the OSI model. Transport Layer Security is designed to make use of TCP to provide a reliable end-to-end secure service. Transport layer is above TCP and below the application layer.
