Introduction to IT fundamentals

- Hello, I'm Scott Jernigan. Welcome to CompTIA IT Fundamentals Plus, knowledge that every citizen of the 21st Century should have. We interact with computers and computing devices all the time in our every day life, from smart phones to work stations, at home, at work, at the neighborhood cafe. The ITF Plus exam objectives cover the basics of how computing devices work, what you can do with them, and how they all network together. The certification targets two groups of people: folks who need to know the essentials of computing, that's pretty much everybody, and people who are thinking a career in IT might be cool and want to dip their toes in the water. The IT Fundamentals FC0U61 exam objectives consist of six parts. So here's the scoop on each one. The concepts and terminology section focuses on what you might expect, jargon that's commonly used when discussing computer stuff. This includes definitions like binary, the numbering system used by computers, and how we use terms like megabyte and gigabyte to describe how much stuff you can store on a computing device. The section also covers how all computing devices work and steps you can take to troubleshoot when things go wrong. The Infrastructure section dives into computing hardware and networking. I'll cover how various parts of devices work like hard drives for storing data, and basic connectivity, such as which port to use for a monitor versus the port for a printer. The networking section explores things that most users do today like connect securely to a wi-fi network. The applications and software section dives into operating systems like Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. It gives you a survey of application software to give you a feel for all the cool things you can do with computing devices. Programs or apps enable you to accomplish specific tasks on a computing device. The Software Development section takes you behind the scenes, exploring gently how programmers create those apps. The database fundamentals section explores the essential tool used for storing huge amounts of data and doing searches on that data. People interact with databases every day from shopping carts in e-commerce to filling out online forms of all sorts. Security asks you pointed questions on stuff you absolutely need to know these days such as how to make a really good password and keep it safe and how to surf the internet securely. So good luck in your studies and on the CompTIA ITF Plus exam.
