L2TP over IPSec

- [Instructor] L2TP/IPsec is a combination of two technologies, layer two transfer protocol, and IPsec, or internet protocol security. In this type of VPN, IPsec creates a secure channel which encapsulates the L2TP traffic. This L2TP connection within the IPsec channel provides the tunnel through which network data flows between the client and server. Commonly, these two technologies are used together. L2TP can take layer two traffic, like ethernet frames, and encapsulate them to travel over layer three protocols, like IP. So these frames can travel from one local network to another, which is normally not possible. L2TP enables those traffic to be encapsulated in packets that can flow across the internet, and then on the receiving end, the traffic is able to move back to layer two and be processed as though it came from the destination network.
