- [Instructor] There are simple command line tools that we see in all versions of Windows, but there's also some commands that can help us with tracing routing. And tracing routing is really important because it not only tells us where we currently are, but where we can go. A quick tool for this is the pathping command. And this basically just tells us how we can get out to a specific area and tells us how we get there. So for instance, if I type in pathping, and I put in Google's DNS address, then it's going to go out and find how many hops it takes to get out to that address. But for more experienced users the traceroute command is the best way to go. There's lots of different switches with traceroute. I like to use the -d because I don't always want to resolve names to IP addresses just yet. So let's say for example, that you're trying to get out to a particular website, you can't get there.
